All The Highlights From New York Fashion Week SS27

In case you missed it!

From Gigi Hadid opening the Tommy Hilfiger show to Magda Butrym having her first New York showcase, there was never a dull moment during New York Fashion Week SS27. Here are MOJEH’s highlights.

Tommy Hilfiger

Cool, modern and relaxed, Tommy Hilfiger’s spring 2027 collection, titled Plaza Prep, creates a wardrobe for the nonchalant, preppy dresser. The collection reimagines popular silhouettes from the ’90s, approaching the archives with the younger demographic in mind. However, Oxford tailoring, polos and chinos were all part of the roll call, keeping it true to the brand’s signature style statements. Long-time collaborator of the House, Gigi Hadid, opened the show while Romeo Beckham closed.

Coach

Celebrating the brand’s 85th anniversary, creative director Stuart Vevers brought the party to the runway, complete with party hats and confetti. The collection was not the typical retrospective you would expect of an anniversary, rather presenting designs illustrating what it would be like if the models were walking back from a celebration. With sequins, relaxed tailoring and Coach icons covered in glitter, the remnants of a night well spent was evident.

Ralph Lauren

The Ralph Lauren runway showcased the designer’s classic aesthetic through a youthful lens, combining historical touches like corsetry and Edwardian tailoring with casual utility wear. The collection also comprised of digitally printed jacquards, silk lamé gowns and resin-yarn embroidery, allowing the consumer multiple entry points into the Ralph Lauren universe. White and blue took the lead, however shades of pink and gold also made appearances.

Sabyasachi

Returning to the New York Fashion Week calendar after almost 18 years, Sabyasachi presented a 72-look collection titled Bengal Byzantine Broadway for spring/summer 2027. The looks spanned staple denims, plaid shirts and cowboy hats to dressier separates including hand-beaded coats and collars. The collection narrated a story starring an American-style assortment induced with a moderate dose of the South Asian aesthetic. Notably, the jewellery at the show highlighted the Indian designer’s new fine jewellery collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, resulting in gem-studded Byzantine cuffs and Etruscan neckpieces being paired with the contemporary silhouettes of the collection.

Magda Butrym

It was a week of celebrations for Magda Butrym, as the Warsaw-based designer made her debut on the New York Fashion Week SS27 schedule while also opening her first New York flagship days prior. For the runway, Butrym struck a balance between Poland and New York, creating a collection that strayed away from her signature colourful dresses in favour of a more monochrome design language. There was a deliberate focus on outerwear, while dresses with lace and fringe detailing brought a softer edge to the collection.

Diane von Furstenberg

Henry Zankov made his debut as creative director at Diane von Fustenberg during New York Fashion Week this season. Presenting a collection that effortlessly reminded onlookers of House codes, Zankoc prioritised print and colour apt for the season, along with the brand’s signature wrap dress. The designs were created for the woman in motion, allowing for joy in the act of dressing with colour-blocked silhouettes in jersey and chiffon that gave tailoring an ease.

Tory Burch

Tory Burch brought opulence to the runway through a rich colour palette. The collection promised a variety, but not without a certain vibrancy that anchored every design, whether it was through colour or fabric. Texture and structure also played leading roles, while draped silhouettes and boa sashes added character. The Tory Burch woman does not care for replicating trends – her wardrobe will be dedicated to vintage-inspired ensembles for the next spring/summer season.

Thom Browne

With Madras plaids, checked cashmere and sequinned embellishments, Thom Browne’s spring collection balances the meticulous tailoring the House is known for with whimsicality. The looks begin with the theme of the cocoon, butterfly wings foreshadowing what is to come. The collection features everything from jackets and fur coats to relaxed tailoring with moth appliqués fluttering across overcoats and pleated skirts. Accessories also adhered to the theme. Think: butterfly bags and shoes that somehow complete a themed look without overkill.
