The silhouette of Chanel’s Cruise 2017 Collection has a masculine-feminine aesthetic that’s been caught between Cuba and Paris. The androgyny of men’s clothing, which became a signature of the Parisian Maison since its founder Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel first incorporated menswear into her style, is reimagined here through Karl Lagerfeld’s visionary genius. Examples of this exploration are most noticeable in the masculine cut of jackets, wide-cut trousers with turn-ups, wide-ties and Panama hats that have been reimagined in a refreshing colour palette evocative of Cuba. Here, the derby-shoes, which are another statement in traditional menswear, are re-crafted in golden leather and boast woven details reminiscent of wood.
