The MOJEH Weekend: The More The Merrier

the mojeh weekend, collections
From insider-led city guides to an exhibition that challenges the inner workings of the art world, The MOJEH Weekend takes a closer look at the art of collection

We collect things over the course of our lives: jewellery, books, art, memories, high school yearbooks that you should probably recycle but can’t quite part with. The MOJEH Weekend curates a weekend of collections: a collection of luxurious travel guides that cram the history of a city into your pocket, a collection of artworks that raise questions about how we consume culture, a dainty collection of jewels that usher in the season. With collections and curations come a sense of community, where you too become part of – and contribute to – something larger, whether it is a community of like-minded art collectors or travellers gathered together over a shared sunset. Here, MOJEH rounds-up how you should spend your weekend.

Your seasonal statement piece should tick certain boxes. It should be bold, but not in-your-face; it should echo the spirit of springtime with just the right amount of playfulness; and it should be utterly unique. Yvonne Léon steps up to the plate with the Vase Brooch Pendant, inviting you to customise your bouquet with a choice of flowers – opt for a central daisy or cluster of clovers and flank it with yellow-gold branches of diamonds, tsavorite or pearls. Adding to its versatility, the piece can be worn as a necklace, too. Shop now

La Maison Ani celebrates its fourth anniversary this weekend and is dishing-up a selection of specials for the occasion. Plus, Chef Izu will be present on 9 May to commemorate the anniversary with a strawberry-and-vanilla cake that resembles a strawberry market crate and evokes mornings browsing boulangeries in France; it will be shared amongst all guests in attendance. What To See

Foundry Downtown Dubai is challenging perceptions of art collecting with Supermarket, a group exhibition that brings together UAE-based artists without gallery representation. The exhibition poses questions around how culture is packaged, consumed and desired, and what it means to shop for art today. Supermarket reveals the inner workings of art collection, encouraging attendees to ponder how art is assigned value while building relationships with the artists, audience and artworks themselves. In addition, all the works at Supermarket are for sale at accessible prices to challenge the notion that worthy artwork is exclusive and out-of-reach. Gallery 8, Foundry Downtown Dubai, Dubai.
