Ethiopian artist Aida Muluneh is renowned for her Afrofuturist works, using vibrant colours and surreal imagery to explore the experiences of Black women. In her latest exhibition at Efie Gallery, titled This Bloom I Borrow, she departs from her signature style to experiment with hand-painted acrylic and silk-screened photographic works – a shift that allows her art to transcend photography and meet painting. Created during Muluneh’s residency at Efie Gallery, this series employs a bold visual language to tell personal stories and relay the complex emotions of African women. By returning to analog techniques, Muluneh intentionally counters the digital saturation of modern life through this collection.This Bloom I Borrow will be on show until 5 April at Efie Gallery, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai.
