Louis Vuitton Introduces The Tambour Taiko Arty Automata Timepiece

A playful addition to your watch collection

In the world of haute horlogerie, Louis Vuitton has long transcended its trunk-making status, establishing itself as a force in the watchmaking realm. The latest reveal, the Tambour Taiko Arty Automata, is a testament to this evolution, a timepiece in favour of a kitchen sink philosophy where surrealist pop art and technical complexity find each other.

At the heart of the Arty Automata is the jacquemart, the art of mechanical animation that transforms the dial into a living stage. While traditional luxury watches are content to remain static, this piece requires interaction. With a singular press of the pusher at eight o’clock, the wearer conducts a psychedelic concert of seven distinct animations.

Four Monogram Flowers twirl in alternating directions, their diamond pistils catching the light, while a piercing blue iris swivels to scan its surroundings. Most captivating is the candy-pink heart wedged between glossy red lips; it oscillates as if trying to break free, while the enamelled “LOVE” above the tourbillon decisively shifts to “MOVE,” transforming a declaration into a call for action.

To navigate the immense energy required to drive seven animations alongside a tourbillon, Louis Vuitton utilised lightweight materials to preserve a robust 65-hour power reserve. The dial itself is an architectural feat, constructed from 20 miniature 18K white gold elements spread over four tiered levels.

Housed in a 42mm white gold Tambour Taiko case, the silhouette has a sculptural edge with open worked lugs. The bezel is decadent, however not obvious, set with a rainbow spectrum of baguette-cut rubies and sapphires that echo the dial’s vibrancy. Even the white gold rotor is hand-decorated with opalescent blue clouds and miniature-painted sunrays. Limited to only nine pieces, the Tambour Taiko Arty Automata is a kaleidoscopic collector’s piece that keeps Louis Vuitton on every horological enthusiast’s wish list. Learn more
