At New York Fashion Week, Proenza Schouler’s AW26 collection marked the debut of Rachel Scott as the brand’s creative director, presenting a vision that honours the House’s heritage while asserting a fresh, confident, contemporary identity. Central to the collection was the continuous and abundant use of buttons, transforming functional fastenings into instruments of compositional nuance, shaping both silhouette and mood. Buttons appeared not only on coats but across shirts, trousers, dresses, and outerwear, often in clusters or repeated arrangements, emphasising careful attention to proportion, layering, and the relationship between detail and form.
Materials and textures complemented this design language. Double-faced wools, silk habotai, and woven knits provided tactility, allowing the buttons to register not only visually but texturally, reinforcing the garments’ presence and character. The colour palette ranged from muted neutrals to deep teals and strategic accents of vivid red, each shade enhancing the dialogue between form and fastening.
Beauty and styling adhered to the collection’s ethos of lived-in sophistication. Hair was loosely gathered, skin luminous, and lips softened, emphasising the real-world wearability of the pieces while maintaining an understated elegance. Running alongside this considered detailing was a pronounced affection for red.
