The First Monday of May is upon us: The Met Gala. Every year, celebrities descend in droves to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to attend the annual fundraiser in support of The Costume Institute and its associated exhibition – for 2026, that exhibition is Costume Art. In case you haven’t heard, Beyoncé is making a Met Gala comeback this year after a ten-year hiatus and, not only is she attending, but she is one of the evening’s co-chairs. She will be co-chairing alongside Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams, meaning she will be one of the first to arrive (assuming she doesn’t arrive fashionably late, à la Rihanna).
Beyoncé has attended the Met Gala seven times and made her debut in 2008 for Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy wearing an Armani Privé gown – the blush-pink gown didn’t exactly align with the theme, but it was super nonetheless. She made her second appearance in 2011 in a tight-fitting Emilio Pucci gown that led to her asking for assistance to manoeuvre the Met Gala stairs. From 2012 to 2016 Beyoncé partnered with Givenchy; her most memorable Givenchy moment is undoubtedly the sheer, gemstone-studded gown from 2015 by Riccardo Tisci for the House.
