Louis Vuitton Brings Back The Monterey Timepiece, With A Twist

Inspired by Louis Vuitton’s first-ever wristwatches, LV I and LV II of the 1980s, the new Louis Vuitton Monterey is a limited-edition timepiece paying tribute to the cult favourite

La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton has launched the Louis Vuitton Monterey, enhancing the original LV I and LV II wristwatches with its savoir-faire and expertise. The Monterey, respecting the codes of the debut timepiece, keeps the design similar to the original with a pebble-shape case and its signature graphic nature complete with red and blue accents. With only 188 pieces created, the timepiece is a collector’s dream, just like its predecessors continue to be.

The historical LV I and LV II watches

The LV I and LV II were created by the Maison in collaboration with Italian architect and designer Gae Aulenti, who was responsible for transforming Paris’ Gare d’Orsay railway station into the Musée d’Orsay. Louis Vuitton exemplified its affinity to travel with a railway track and date displays, GMT and world time function in the original iteration of the watch, which was affectionately called the Monterey. It is after almost four decades that the designs find a new audience, further pronounced by creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s inclusion of the LV II watches in his Autumn/Winter 2025 runways.

The latest timepiece replaces the original quartz caliber with an in-house automatic movement, adds a glossy Grand Feu enamel dial and keeps it minimalistic with a time-only function. It has been upsized to a 39mm 18 karat gold case compared to the 37mm LV II watch. For the horological enthusiast, this wristwatch symbolises history and the Maison’s respect for the design that remains a cult favourite among tastemakers. Enquire now
