Even hours after leaving Tate Britain, the images of Erdem’s Autumn/Winter 2026 collection refuse to loosen their grip. The colour cravings persist. The tactile hunger insists. Lace, jacquard, ostrich feathers, crystal embroidery and metallic threads surge forward in memory, demanding to be touched, worn and inhabited. From soft powders to deep emeralds, ruby reds, blush pinks and metallic silvers, every shade and texture ignites desire, imagination and longing.
Before a single model appeared, Tate Britain was already a stage. On the steps and spilling into the streets, London seemed drafted into the show itself. Museum-goers, eager for Millais’s Ophelia, queued alongside a swirl of attendees whose outfits belonged to another dimension entirely: voluminous skirts brushing polished shoes, sculptural coats gleaming with metallic threads, and delicate lace layered over bold satin. Slowly, the visitors realised something peculiar was unfolding: this line was not for the paintings.
The Imaginary Conversation
Erdem’s “The Imaginary Conversation” celebrated twenty years of design with garments that were both narrative-driven and materially audacious. Archive references were resurrected and reinterpreted through splicing, collage, embroidery and metallic embellishments. Waxed cotton, alpaca-blend knits, satin, tulle, jacquard, pleated Mikado, and overprinted satins combined in layered, dynamic compositions. Cocooned silhouettes sat alongside sharply defined hourglass jackets, voluminous skirts brushed against tailored coats, and delicate crystal fragments, bows and feathers punctuated ensembles with playful energy. Casual touches – knotted canvas bodices, stonewashed denim and mini Bloom bags – anchored the fantasy without diminishing its audacity.
Colour, Texture And Sensory Urge
AW26 thrummed with chromatic and tactile intensity. Deep emeralds, lilacs, ruby reds, blush pinks, powders, and metallic silvers moved through coats, skirts, dresses and layered ensembles. Lace floated over satin, tulle hovered above jacquard, and feathers brushed metallic threads, creating a sensory interplay that compelled the imagination. Each garment seemed to ask: When will you have the honour to experience wearing me? Accessories reinforced this playful, irresistible charm, with micro-mini and mini Bloom bags in velvet, patent leather and sequins punctuating the looks, while embroidered tulle, bows and lace collars added intricate, whimsical detail.
Erdem AW26 was a triumph: audacious, sumptuous and vividly alive. The collection celebrated twenty years of dialogue – between past and present, imagination and craft. As the crowd spilled back into London, both initiated and accidental, it was clear: Fashion Week’s magic rests in the hands of Erdem Moralıoğlu. No attendee left glum or disappointed. Expectations were high – after all, it was a two-decade anniversary – and they were not only met but perhaps even exceeded. This is a collection to remember.
