4 Brands At Dubai Watch Week With A Local Link

Dubai Watch Week, Watch Brands
MOJEH’S curated list of the Maisons bringing regional pride to this international event

Beda’a

Originating from Doha as the brainchild of Qatari entrepreneur Hader Al Suwaidi and Lebanese CEO and Chief Designer Sohaib Maghnam, Beda’a was recently nominated for a GPHG award for its poetic Eclipse timepiece. One of the hottest new names at this year’s Dubai Watch Week, the clamour to get up close with the Eclipse II has been palpable – so sharpen your elbows! Shop now

MB&F

While this revolutionary collaboration-based brand’s famed M.A.D. House creative lab and headquarters is found in Geneva, MB&F’s real home – or at least the MB part’s – is actually in Dubai. Standing for Max Büsser & Friends, the Maison’s founder has called Dubai home since 2014 and splits his time between here, Switzerland and his business travels. However, that hasn’t stopped him with coming up with some of the wackiest designs ever seen in horology, including astounding collaborations with Bvlgari. Watch this space for more. Shop now

Vyntage Horology

Just because Ahmed Seddiqi is celebrating 75 years in business this year, that doesn’t mean to say that it’s a brand about to sit on its laurels. Indeed, making its debut two years ago at the last edition of Dubai Watch Week, Vyntage Horology is the distillation of Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi’s tastes, culminating in a confluence of craftsmanship and Swiss finishing in a wholly local setting. So what’s it been up to over the past couple of years? Launching collections like Monograph and Purity, including models with Grand Feu enamel dials, titanium cases and camel leather straps that nod to regional heritage, the Vyntage ethos emphasises sustainability, rarity and a fusion of tradition with a modern sensibility. Rather like Dubai itself. Dennison

A young brand with an Anglo-American watch-insider name, Dennison has certainly made a splash over the past year – not least of all by claiming the GPHG’s Challenge Watch Prize for its ALD Tiger’s Eye in Gold. With its clean, minimalistic Emmanuel Gueit-designed profile and generous use of natural stone and graphic forms, it’s a Maison with vision. And its Dubai connection? The brand’s Co-Founder and Director Toby Sutton makes our fair emirate his home. Judging from the exquisitely zebra-striped drop that Dennison just made from its DWW outpost at Fine Arts in Dubai Mall, Toby has his finger precisely on the pulse of what makes Dubai tick. Shop now
